When St Mary’s Hospital diagnosed a critical problem within their existing renal dialysis unit, the remedy consisted of a tailor made accommodation solution from MPH.

The hospital’s renal department was being placed under growing pressure from a surge in the number of holiday-makers to the island requiring essential dialysis treatment. With insufficient capacity to cope with the demand, the hospital turned to MPH to find a cure.

A tailor made 302sq metre independent renal dialysis unit was designed to meet an exacting client specification and manufactured to comply fully with all latest HTM building regulations.

Central to the effective functioning of the renal unit was the prescribed water treatment system incorporated within the design. MPH worked alongside specialist contractors to accommodate the system and install a concrete floor section within the modular building construction to house the heavy equipment.

The modular building design included provision for all specialist equipment and services to be integrated within the fabric of the building. Suspended ceilings were fitted to enable services to be run in the attendant roof space and a specialist bed-head system was designed and installed by MPH to house essential pipework and medical equipment.

Other features of the build programme included a full air conditioning system, wall mounted televisions for patient use and an aesthetically enhancing purple and green colour scheme designed to sensitively connect the new ward extension with the main hospital environment.
